After the Blue Mosque we enjoyed a very late lunch - delicious Turkish meatballs - and walked to the other side of Hagia Sofia to Topkapi Palace - a huge garden fulled complex that housed the Sultan as well as many governmental agencies. By the time we completed this tour we were starting to feel a bit fatigued so we left Sultanahmet (the old/historic district) and headed to the new district, Istiklal Street (like Michigan Avenue) to do some shopping and see a more modern side of Istanbul. Even this part of town has cobblestone streets. Amazing! So much character! It was here that we were introduced to Moda Cafe and their Baklava and Kesme (Turkish ice cream) - Yummy! - Claire loves ice cream and shopping just as much as I do so w make excellent travel buddies! :)
Topkapi Palace - very beautiful and intricate design.
